redesigning a georgian town house

We practically live down here. It has become the heart of the house. The whole space has a real wow factor and the layout really works. The project came in on time despite  quite tight timescales. -

Brief

The property had been subdivided in the 1970s to create a one-bedroom flat in the basement. Our clients had bought the property with a view to returning it back into a single house, and creating their dream kitchen/living space in the basement. They wanted to respect the property’s Regency heritage but combine it with a more classic, contemporary look, uncluttered and with simple lines. Practically, there was also a requirement to include as much storage space as possible.

Solution

Working with planners architects and structural engineers, we secured all necessary permissions. We developed a plan to relocate the kitchen to the front of the lower ground floor, introduce more natural light by turning a window into French doors, and reopen a blocked-up range. We specified a hand-made, hand-painted kitchen with traditional Georgian detailing, but balanced it by selecting contemporary classic furniture, chrome fittings and state-of-the-art appliances, subtly incorporated into the kitchen design, along with a modern colour scheme. What was the flat’s old kitchen was converted into a living room with wall-to-wall cupboards and flat screen tv.
